Our convention is not funded by the District or dues. Our sponsors make it happen! Thank you to these 2024 sponsors: Jackson Kiwanis Club, West Branch Kiwanis Club, Kurt Jolly – Raymond James Financial Services, David & Joy Mahone, Linda Hayes, Chad & Jennifer Noble, Vicki Okuniewski, Performance Automotive Northwest, Inc., Loniero Inspired Wellness, Peckham Inc., and George Racette.
Convention Planning Committee: All club advisors are encouraged to join the planning committee. Meetings are held via Zoom. Email to Amy Urick to be included.
Accommodations for special needs: We will do everything in our power to ensure all members have the opportunity to participate equally. Contact Amy Urick to discuss your needs.
Convention Activities:
Club Service Project Presentations: All clubs will give a 5- to 10-minute presentation on your most recent or favorite service project. Clubs can include scrapbooks, photos, posters, props or examples of your project — limited display space will be provided.
Leadership Training: Not just for club officers, all members will benefit.
Service Project: We’re looking for our next service project — contact Amy Urick if you can sponsor the project in 2025.
Michigan District Aktion Club Governor: The Governor helps to represent Aktion Clubs in the state by publishing articles in the newsletter and giving speeches to Kiwanis clubs, other groups, and the Michigan Kiwanis Great Lakes Conference. Travel opportunities exist, but are not required. All paid members are eligible. We vote to select our Governor-Elect at each convention, who will serve under the existing Governor for one year and then step up to serve as Governor at the next convention. To be considered, candidates will give a speech or presentation on why they would like to be chosen.
Talent Show: Individuals and clubs may share a song, dance, skit, speech or other performance of your choice! Best in show will be awarded a prize, sponsored by the Tri-Cities Aktion Club.
Contests: Present your submitted Kiwanis International Contest video or speech, or display your scrapbook or poster entries. Participants will vote for Best In Show with a “bead count.”
Campfire and Dance: Friday evening begins with a campfire singalong with s’mores, and concludes with a dance party. Sugar free and gluten free s’mores options and a fruit snack are provided.
Ice Cream Sundae: We continue our convention tradition by sharing a “6-foot long ice cream sundae;” a perennial favorite! Sugar free and lactose free options are included.
Registration: All participants staying overnight and/or eating meals must submit a registration form prior to the posted deadline. Those registering late may attend but will not receive a t-shirt and may not be accommodated for meals or lodging. Payment must be received at or before convention start, please include a copy of registration form(s) when mailing payment. Medical forms must be received at or before convention start by ALL participants including advisors, helpers or caregivers. Limited financial aid is available for club members, advisors or helpers and caregivers.
Meals: Our venue provides three meals, Friday dinner to Saturday lunch. [Scroll to menu] All dietary needs will be considered, please include on registration form. Participants may also bring their own snacks or drinks if necessary.
Lodging: Overnight participants will stay in modern ADA compliant lodge rooms, segregated by gender. Each lodge has toilet/shower rooms, bunk beds with mattresses, kitchenette and central common room.
